'The Eye of the Needle', the story behind Gossypium throws new light on some of the secrets of the clothing industry.
Originally written as the basis of an Arts & Business South East award winning childrens drama workshop, which has been touring schools with theatre company, Intrepid, The Eye of the Needle has now been beautifully illustrated & published.
The story is written as a journey and in language accessible to children, at the same time enchanting adults with it's vivid descriptions and timeless story. Abigail Petit, co-founder of Gossypium, shares her experiences, learning about the way that clothes are made through her meetings with growers, weavers, embroiderers, dyers, sewers and printers.
Her messages are graphic, personable and imaginative.
'The Eye of the Needle' explains the role of ethically produced and traded cotton as solutions to many problems with future clothing production. The story serves to disguise what is an informed and complete expose of how far from sustainable our global clothing production and consumption is today - and the fact that it is rapidly getting worse.
